Welcome from the Program Chairs

Namaste! We are delighted to invite you to join us for the third SMS India conference, the second one in Hyderabad. You may recall that in 2008, we had the very first special conference in India, convened by late Professor CK Prahalad emerged as a watershed moment in shaping scholarly research in India.

We invite you to celebrate CK’s legacy and also build on it. CK’s core competencies framework shaped much of our theory and practice in corporate strategy. But, times have changed. We borrow from Charles Handy, to frame our conference theme, “Rethinking Corporate Strategy in the Age of Paradox” to explore issues in corporate strategy from multiple vantage points. We are expecting to draw thought leaders from academia and industry to spur energetic conversations and new discovery.

India has come a long way since its early years of economic liberalization. Over three decades, the country has witnessed the emergence and growth of strong indigenous businesses expanding domestically and globally, as well as entry of many multinationals who have evolved with the country and have become entrenched players to create a vibrant economy. Successive governments have continued to sharpen the focus on governance and infrastructure. Today, despite the problems surrounding the global economy, India has continued to keep its growth momentum, and is seen now as one of the fastest growing large economies in the world.

Hyderabad is a perfect city to host the conference, where you will find the digital world and physical world blend together seamlessly. Hyderabad is a city soaked in centuries of tradition, but it is also a city basking in its technology-driven success. You will find the old-world charm side by side with progressive thought. Hyderabad has emerged as one of India's leading business hubs, with a track record of pioneering activity in information technology, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology. It is easily accessible from major international airports, and also is well connected to all major cities within India.  We invite you to discover Hyderabad, and explore India!

We are grateful to the Dean and the faculty of the Indian School of Business (ISB) for hosting the conference. ISB is a great venue for the conference, with superb facilities and easy accessibility from the Hyderabad International Airport. Hotel accommodations are available both within ISB as well as in several hotels within a 15-minute drive. The Conference Gala dinner is being planned in one of the most exquisite Hyderabad palaces.

We hope you find the Call for Proposals inspiring and informative. We have designed several innovative workshops to bring together top-notch CEOs and thought leaders from SMS as keynote speakers. We have been blessed with an incredible group of scholars leading our various workshops and chairing the conference tracks. Come, let us create history again!
