About the event

The SMS Virtual Workshop Conference is a new online event designed to bring the SMS Conferences workshop experience to a global audience. Modeled on the popular Saturday Workshop program at the Annual Conference, this virtual event offers participants hands-on opportunities to strengthen their research and professional skills through focused, application-based sessions with experienced facilitators and thought-leading panelists. 

Participants will join 120-minute workshops designed to foster meaningful interaction, collaboration, and personalized feedback, along with a live plenary session that brings all attendees together for shared insights and community connection. With an accessible virtual format, this event is perfect for members who cannot attend the Annual Conference in person or those who want more interactive learning and development opportunities without the hassle of travel.

Elizabeth L. Rose

ICFAI Foundation for Higher Education (IFHE)

Elizabeth L. Rose is (from May 2026) Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research and Internationalisation) and Senior Professor at The ICFAI Foundation for Higher Education (IFHE) in Hyderabad, India. Her previous academic appointments have been in India, the UK, New Zealand, Finland, and the US.

Beth's research addresses various aspects of how firms internationalise and compete across borders; she works at the intersection of international business, global strategy, and international entrepreneurship. She has ongoing interests in the internationalisation activities of smaller firms, especially those operating in emerging and developing markets.

Beth has held leadership roles in several academic professional organisations. She has been Chair of the SMS' Global Strategy Interest Group, and has served as a Vice President for Administration for the Academy of International Business (AIB). An AIB Fellow, she was the founding chair of the AIB's Australia and New Zealand Chapter (now AIB-Oceania), and is a past President of both the Australia and New Zealand International Business Academy (ANZIBA) and the Association of Japanese Business Studies (AJBS), and works with the taskforce leading the re-invigoration of the AIB-Africa Chapter. She chaired the International Management Division of the Academy of Management (AOM) and is now active in the AOM’s Community Accelerator Program. Currently on the editorial team of Journal of International Business Studies, Beth was a founding co-editor of Academy of Management Collections, and is co-editor of Review of International Business and Strategy and deputy editor of Academy of International Business Insights.

Beth was named the 2019 Woman of the Year by the Women of the AIB (WAIB) and received the 2024 AOM International Management Division’s Outstanding Service to the Global Community Award.

PK Toh

Nanyang Business School, Nanyang Technological University (NTU)

PK Toh is a Professor of Strategy and the Assistant Dean of Faculty at the Nanyang Business School, Nanyang Technological University (NTU). He is an expert in technology strategy, focusing on issues such as value creation and capture in digital and AI platforms, standard setting in ecosystems, technological search, competition and innovation, and firms’ resource allocation. He earned a Ph.D. in Strategy from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. Before joining NTU, he was a Professor of Management at the University of Texas at Austin.

PK has held various leadership roles in the Strategy research community. He is currently an Associate Editor at Strategic Management Journal, served as a Senior Editor at Organization Science (2017 – 2022) and is on the editorial boards of various academic journals such as Strategic Management Journal, Strategy Science, and Strategic Organization. His research has been published in leading academic journals and has won several prestigious awards. He actively contributes back to the research community in different capacities, e.g. as chair, organizer, or panelist in numerous conferences, junior faculty consortia, Ph.D. dissertation and doctoral consortia, and research committees. Before his return to Singapore, he was the strategy area coordinator at UT Austin and sat on several school-level and department-level committees.

PK has been training senior executives and managers across different ranks and industries in strategic decision-making over the past two decades, winning numerous teaching awards along the way. He has deep experience in offering strategy courses through various executive and working-professional MBA programs.

Prior to his academic career, PK was a currency options trader at J.P. Morgan. Besides academic qualification, he has two advanced piano performance diplomas – Licentiate and Fellowship of the Trinity College of London.
