The Knowledge and Innovation, Cooperative Strategy, and Competitive Strategy Interest Groups are pleased to co-sponsor a paper development workshop and future research directions workshop for junior faculty on Saturday October 28, 2017 from 9:00-12:00, followed by lunch from 12:00-13:00!
The goal of the workshop is two-fold: (1) to provide junior scholars with collective insights from a panel of senior scholars operating at the forefront of the field of strategy and (2) to give junior scholars an opportunity to receive feedback on their current papers in progress on topics central to knowledge and innovation, cooperative strategy, and competitive strategy areas. The topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the mechanisms and networks of inter-organizational knowledge development, cooperative strategies in technology and R&D platforms, development and integration of external sources of innovation through corporate venturing, knowledge search and entrepreneurship, and related topics. By bringing three interest groups together and inviting the panelists and paper discussants with broad expertise we expect this PDW to be particularly beneficial for junior faculty as they will be exposed to ideas, critical issues and promising avenues of research in three prominent areas of strategic management – knowledge and innovation, competitive strategy and cooperative strategy– without having to choose between them.
In the first part of the workshop, panelists will present briefly (approximately 10 minutes) their insights regarding the emerging questions in the field, with each panelist focusing on a specific domain of expertise. The goal of this part of the workshop is to provide a broad canvas for thought-provoking discussion amongst the panel and junior faculty participants.
In the second part of the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to receive feedback on their current papers in progress from senior faculty as well as provide their own feedback to their peers. To this end, we will send all participants 1 or 2 papers at the beginning of October and we will kindly ask them to provide feedback to the authors during the roundtable session. The workshop will end with a common lunch.
