This workshop aims to bring together strategy and organization science scholars carrying out research on hybrid organizing for the social good and sustainability. The objective is to provide a forum for discussing frontier research on different forms of hybrid organizing, the effectiveness of these boundary-spanning organizational arrangements in creating value and social impact, and more broadly, strategies in markets for social goods. In terms of theoretical domains, the goal is to enable cross-fertilization on the burgeoning set of studies that exist on hybrid organizations, contractual and firm boundary theory, social entrepreneurship, as well as innovation and social value perspectives. Further, the workshop is designed to give visibility to methodological innovations – such as field experiments, new empirical measures of core concepts (e.g. hybridity, social impact or purpose), clever sampling approaches and big data/AI analytic techniques – that advance this research field.
