Virtual Empirical Clinic Hosted by Asli Arikan

October 21, 2021 at 2:00pm - 3:30pm EDT (UTC -4) on Zoom

All types of your research questions are welcomed.

Pre-registration is suggested to receive the Zoom link and any other updates about the virtual sessions. You do not need to submit anything. You can jump in the zoom link and ask your question (first-come-first serve).

The session will be recorded to benefit others who might have similar questions and will be housed in the collection titled “Empirical Clinic” in the RMC Member Circle. SMS members can access this collection and much more through their SMS membership and the Member Circle.

I am happy to have a short chat about your research questions such as:

  • I am interested in a phenomenon, but not sure about what the relevant theories are.
  • I am interested in this theory, but I have no idea how to test it.
  • I know I need to correct for endogeneity, but I don’t know what is endogenous in my research context.
  • What should my data look like if I have …
  • Which empirical approach(es) should/could I adopt for my research question?
  • I am not sure if I need to write a theory paper or just a literature review (not sure if there is a difference).
  • I don’t know what kind of variables I need to test what I hypothesize.
  • Does my sample inherit a sample selection bias for my research question?
  • Is DiD the right approach? I know it is fashionable, but I want to make sure that I am not misusing this technique.
  • I am not sure what kind of independent or dependent variable(s) I need?
  • I always hear “do robustness checks,” but I don’t know how to do those checks for my specific study.
  • I am not sure if my research question is about theory testing, theory extending, or just replication.

And so on…

Looking forward to virtually meeting with you on October 21st between 2pm-3:30pm EDT (UTC -4)!
