The Strategic Management Society (SMS) and the Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal (SEJ) are proud to have partnered on the recent Japan Academy of Business Administration (JABA) research seminar hosted by Kyoto University.

The event took place on June 19, 2026 at Kyoto University’s Yoshida Campus,  organized by the Graduate School of Management. During the seminar, Professor Yong Li—of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and Co-Editor of SEJ—presented “Technological Complementarity and AI: The Case of Corporate Venture Capital,” examining technological complementarity as a key driver of corporate venture capital (CVC) investment in emerging AI and how CVC firms match with entrepreneurial ventures to enable joint value creation. The subsequent SEJ “Meet the Editor” session offered an interactive discussion of the journal’s scope, its editorial and review process, and practical tips for successful submissions.

The session grew out of outreach from the SMS Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee to JABA, prompted by the two organizations’ shared membership in the International Federation of Scholarly Associations of Management (IFSAM). This is part of an ongoing initiative by SMS leadership to connect with scholars and organizations, expanding the Society’s geographic reach and representation.

The Society extends its sincere thanks to Yong Li (front, center) for sharing his research and leading an engaging “Meet the Editor” session. SMS is also grateful to its hosts and partners for creating such a meaningful opportunity for learning, dialogue, and engagement:
