The Strategic Management Society (SMS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Ulrich Pidun as a Director-at-Large on the SMS Board of Directors for a three-year term that begins in January 2027.
The SMS Board appointed Ulrich to the Director-at-Large position at their meeting in September 2026. The appointment of individuals with a background in strategy practice to the SMS Board continues to enable the Society to strengthen its connection across academics, business executives, and consultants.
Ulrich Pidun is a Partner and Director at Boston Consulting Group, with 30 years of experience advising companies on corporate and portfolio strategy, growth, governance, and organization. He leads the Strategy Lab at the BCG Institute, BCG’s think tank, where he previously was a Fellow researching business ecosystems. Ulrich has served as an honorary professor of corporate strategy at the Technical University of Berlin and is a lecturer at the University of Goettingen. He is the author of the textbook Corporate Strategy: Theory and Practice and publishes at the intersection of strategy research and executive practice. He holds a PhD in theoretical chemistry from Philipps University of Marburg and an MBA from INSEAD, where he graduated with highest distinction and received the Henry Ford II Award.
A longstanding contributor to the Strategic Management Society, Ulrich served as Program Co-Chair of the SMS 36th Annual Conference in Berlin (2016) and has supported initiatives that connect scholars and practitioners. In his new role, Ulrich brings a practitioner’s perspective to Board and Committee discussions in support of the Society’s efforts to better connect scholarly research to practice. His appointment fills the seat of Paul Mang, who concludes his second term as an SMS Board Director this year. We are grateful to both Paul and Ulrich for their willingness to support the mission of SMS!
