2026 SMS Conference: Extension Call for Proposals

We invite you to organize an SMS Extension! These one-day, thematic workshops held in conjunction with the SMS Annual Conference offer an opportunity to explore key aspects of the conference theme through interactive, focused programming. Below is an overview of structure and requirements for 2026.

Format & Eligibility:

• Takes place within 1–2 hours’ travel of the 2026 SMS Annual Conference location or is held virtually
• One-day event, approximately 6–8 hours of programming (shorter permitted for virtual)
• Held within 3 days before or after the Annual Conference
  • Virtual Extensions may be held up to 10 days prior
• No Extensions may be held during the Annual Conference
• A very limited number (approximately 4–5) will be selected by the Program Chairs with input from SMS Board committees

To be considered, proposals must demonstrate:

• Clear alignment with the 2026 conference theme
• Tie-in to one or more of the Six Big Questions of Strategic Management
• Strong practitioner involvement, such as corporate visits or academic–practitioner panels
• A clear plan to engage a local audience (scholars, students, practitioners, industry leaders)
