AWARD CRITERIA
The SMS Journals Video Abstract Award was established in 2019 by SMS Media Innovations to promote the development of high-quality video abstracts for research published in SMS Journals. It is open to all authors of accepted articles in any of the three SMS journals that have submitted a video abstract to be included with their Article of Record. All journal abstracts can be found in playlists on the SMS YouTube channel.

About the Recipients:
Russ Browder is an Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship at the University of Oklahoma. His research examines how spaces like makerspaces and incubators support entrepreneurial activity, how organizations and individuals lead innovation and entrepreneurship, and how entrepreneurship amid adversity builds organizational and community resilience. His research has been published in Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal, Journal of Business Venturing, Entrepreneurship Theory & Practice, Journal of Product Innovation Management, Academy of Management Discoveries, and other journals. Russ completed his PhD and MDiv at Baylor University and his MBA at IE Business School as a Fulbright Scholar to Spain. Prior to academia he served as a global marketing leader in healthcare IT, medical devices, and the non-profit healthcare sector.

Sean M. Dwyer is an Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship at the University of Oklahoma’s Price College of Business. His research focuses on purpose, resilience, and fraud in the context of entrepreneurship. Before entering academia, he worked as a Certified Public Accountant with Grant Thornton LLP, founded and operated a purpose-driven clothing brand, and provided outsourced CFO services as a management consultant to small businesses through Crossmark Management Group. He has also volunteered internationally in Southeast Asia, Eastern Europe, and Eastern Africa, mentoring local entrepreneurs. At OU, he teaches New Venture Development II, a course focused on evaluating the feasibility of new venture ideas. Dr. Dwyer earned his Ph.D. in Entrepreneurship from Baylor University and holds a master’s degree in accounting and a bachelor’s degree in finance from Tulane University. His research has been published in Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal, Journal of Business Venturing, Journal of Small Business Management, and other journals.

Hope Koch is the Godfrey Sullivan Chair and Professor of Information Systems & Business Analytics at Baylor University. Her teaching and research focus on emerging technologies, organizational adaptation, and the future of business. A licensed CPA with industry experience, Dr. Koch integrates financial acumen and strategic accountability into her academic and leadership roles. Beyond the university, Dr. Koch is a dedicated philanthropist committed to supporting parks and expanding educational access. Since 2002, she has chaired the Callaway Foundation, which provides $500,000 annually in scholarships to rural Texans. She serves as a Trustee at Temple College and as a Director at First National Bank Texas, where she chairs the Audit Committee. Her research has been published in leading business journals, including MIS Quarterly and the Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal. Dr. Koch’s mentoring of doctoral students has led to numerous best paper awards, many of which began as projects in her Ph.D. seminar.
