Our organization is unique in bringing together the worlds of reflective practice and
thoughtful scholarship. The Society consists of over 3,000 members representing a
kaleidoscope of backgrounds and perspectives from more than 80 different countries.
Membership, composed of academics, business practitioners, and consultants,
focuses on the development and dissemination of insights on the strategic management
process, as well as on fostering contacts and interchange around the world.
Throughout the year, SMS provides numerous opportunities for members to engage with others in the strategic management field.

Leadership of SMS for 2021
We are pleased to share the following announcements for the leadership of the Society in 2021.
First, Paul Mang has been appointed as a Director-at-Large to the SMS Board of Directors for a three-year term beginning in January 2021. This decision was made to enable SMS to strengthen its connection across academics, business executives, and consultants – the “ABCs” of the Society.
Second, we encourage all current SMS members to participate in the elections for the Board of Directors, Interest Groups, and Communities for terms beginning in January 2021. As a membership-based organization, we value your input and hope you will take this opportunity to participate in the Society and vote! This year, we are electing an individual to the role of President-Elect, two individuals for Directors-at-Large, and several individuals for Interest Group or Community Associate Program Chair and Representative-at-Large.
*Voting in the SMS Leadership Elections is restricted to 2020 members of the Society.
SMJ Announces 2021 Co-Editors
The SMS Board of Directors is excited to announce the appointment of Vibha Gaba and Brian Silverman as new Strategic Management Journal Co-Editors. Vibha and Brian are current SMJ Associate Editors. Vibha is a Professor of Entrepreneurship at INSEAD, and Brian is a Professor of Strategic Management at the Rotman School of Business at University of Toronto.
Vibha and Brian will begin their terms in January 2021 and will work with continuing Co-Editors Rajshree Agarwal and Sendil Ethiraj.

SEJ Announces 2021 Co-Editors
The SMS Board of Directors is excited to announce the appointment of Peter Klein as a Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal Co-Editor. Klein is a Professor of Entrepreneurship at Baylor University’s Hankamer School of Business. He has served two terms as an SEJ Associate Editor and is a Guest Editor for the journal’s upcoming Special Issue on Policy for Innovative Entrepreneurship.
We are also pleased that Melissa Graebner has been reappointed to a second term as SEJ Co-Editor. Graebner, Professor of Business Administration at the University of Illinois, joined the SEJ Co-Editor team in January 2018.
Klein and Graebner will work with continuing Co-Editor Gary Dushnitsky in reviewing journal submissions, managing and assigning AEs and reviewers, developing policies, guiding the journal’s strategic direction, and more.

The promotion and encouragement of research and scholarship is another of SMS’ primary purposes.
