The SMS 39th Annual Conference was held in Minneapolis on October 19-22, 2019. We would like to thank the 986 conference attendees for their participation!
The theme “Out of the Spotlight Strategies”, developed by Program Chairs Gregory R. Page and J. Myles Shaver, received 1,127 proposal submissions, allowing for a conference program featuring 95 Paper, 46 Common Ground, and 9 Panel sessions. Additionally, the Interest Groups and Communities hosted 15 Saturday Workshops and 32 Sunday Sessions. The 6 Plenary sessions featured speakers from academic, business, and consulting backgrounds, including the CEO of 3M, a panel of Chief Strategy Officers, and discussants on research practices. Four Conference Extensions were also held on October 18 in Minneapolis, and on October 23 in Madison, Wisconsin.
In addition to the conference sessions, the program also included three Evening Events, which featured Monday’s offsite reception at Mill City Museum, and several new Networking Opportunities. These included a Women’s Networking Breakfast, an ABC Relevance Lunch Discussion, and Breakfast with an SMS Fellow. A meet-and-greet for first time attendees was also held in conjunction with the conference Opening Reception, which was sponsored this year by the David Eccles School of Business. Finally, Tuesday’s schedule featured the SMS 39th Annual Conference Awards Luncheon, where the winners of the Best Conference Paper Prize, Best Conference PhD Paper Prize, and the inaugural Research Methods Paper Prize were announced, as well as the SMS Awards and the journals’ Paper Prizes.
