The Strategic Management Society invites members to apply to serve on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee of the SMS Board of Directors.
The Committee works to strengthen diversity, equity, and inclusion across SMS publications, programs, and activities. It considers who participates, whose perspectives are represented, and where barriers may limit opportunities to contribute. A particular focus is broadening access to SMS and creating opportunities for scholars around the world to participate, share their work, and contribute to the field of strategic management.
The Committee’s work includes:
- Encouraging broader and more equitable participation in SMS membership, publications, programs, and activities.
- Listening to members’ experiences and identifying ways SMS can better serve scholars from different backgrounds and regions.
- Developing programming and encouraging other SMS groups to create programs and partnerships that support scholars and strengthen the field globally.
- Advising SMS leaders on policies and initiatives that address barriers to participation and strengthen inclusion across the Society.

Open Call for Member Applications
The SMS DEI Committee is seeking applicants to fill open positions on the Committee with terms beginning on January 1, 2027.
Applicants for these positions should meet the below requirements:
- Current member of the Strategic Management Society, with requirement to maintain membership in the Society for the duration of the appointment
- Interest in the advancement of diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Willingness to spend 2-3 hours per month on committee work, to participate in quarterly meetings (virtually and in-person), and communicate by email and other means between meetings
- Commitment to serve a 1-year term on the Committee, with the opportunity to renew for two additional terms.
- Experience or volunteer service related to DEI initiatives is highly desired

Interested candidates should complete the application by October 28, 2026.
Applicants for the open positions will be reviewed by the DEI Committee and can expect notification of decisions in mid-December.
