Are you passionate about fostering community and creating meaningful experiences for doctoral students in the field of strategic management? The Strategic Management Society is seeking several new PhD Circle Champions for 2026 to help shape the SMS PhD student experience.
As a PhD Circle Champion, you will collaborate with SMS Executive Staff, SMS leadership, and fellow Champions to:
- Develop engaging programming and resources for PhD students.
- Foster an inclusive and supportive community in the SMS online platform, Member Circle.
- Organize activities and discussions that enhance the learning, teaching, and research environment for PhD candidates.
You will join returning PhD Circle Champions, Deepak Haran (Department of Strategy & Business Policy at HEC Paris) and Meng Xu (Terry College of Business, University of Georgia).
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Facilitating discussions and responding to questions within the PhD Circle on Member Circle.
- Curating and creating relevant content and sharing resources for PhD students.
- Organizing webinars, events, and social networking opportunities tailored to doctoral students.
- Promoting SMS initiatives, including the Annual Doctoral Workshop, Best PhD Paper Awards, and more.
- Supporting SMS publications and media efforts by recruiting and showcasing contributions from PhD students.
- Participating in quarterly meetings to coordinate with SMS staff and Circle Champions.

Requirements & Expectations:
- Must be an SMS student member enrolled in a doctoral program throughout the duration of the role.
- Commitment to dedicating 5-7 hours per month to Champion responsibilities.
- Ability to serve a 2-year term.
- Strong creative, organizational, and leadership skills encouraged.
- Engagement through regular posting and active participation in organizing events, webinars, and discussions.
