Catherine (Cathy) Maritan is a faculty member at the Whitman School of Management, Syracuse University. She earned a Ph.D. in strategic management from Purdue University, has held visiting appointments at Dartmouth College and Purdue, and served on the faculty of SUNY Buffalo. She studies how firms build and use capabilities, with a focus on resource allocation activities and decisions, and has published this research in leading outlets. Cathy served as an Associate Editor at Strategic Management Journal, is co-editing an SMJ special issue on resource allocation and was formerly Senior Associate Editor at Journal of Management. She led the SMS Strategy Research Foundation as Co-chair for nine years, overseeing development and operation of multiple research grant programs, and held leadership roles in the Strategy Process and Competitive Strategy SMS Interest Groups. Prior to her academic career, she worked as a mining engineer and a corporate banker, in Canada and Europe.
