Koen Heimeriks is Professor of Strategy at Warwick Business School. Previously, he was faculty at Copenhagen Business School, Rotterdam School of Management, and Tilburg University and he has also been visiting at Aalto, Carnegie Mellon University, Oxford, INSEAD, and St. Gallen. He earned his Ph.D. at Eindhoven University of Technology. Koen’s research focuses on how companies develop corporate development (i.e., alliance, acquisition, and divestiture) capabilities to realize corporate transformation. Currently he also studies how new ventures hyperscale and how private equity affects in long-term performance. His work features in numerous top journals, including Academy of Management Annals, Academy of Management Journal, Harvard Business Review, Journal of Management Studies, Organization Science, Strategic Management Journal, and Strategic Organization. He serves on the editorial boards for Strategic Management Journal, Strategic Organization, and Organization Science and is an associate editor at Long Range Planning.

Koen Heimeriks is Professor of Strategy at Warwick Business School. As Director-at-Large Koen will contribute to the Strategic Management Society’s mission to foster rigorous and practice-engaged strategic management research and nurture a vibrant and inclusive community. He has three priorities to contribute to this mission. First, he will advance the impact of the Society on early, mid- and late-career talent through the SRF research funding. Second, he will build new bridges between scholars and practitioners to advocate for closer industry connections to positively impact insight on strategic management. Finally, he will stimulate inclusiveness and diversity by increasing involvement of global membership across under-represented regions.
Koen has served the Strategy community in different roles. With great joy, he has been active as Program Chair for the SMS’s Strategy Process Interest Group (2021-23) and as Member of the Executive Committee for the Academy of Management’s STR Division (2023-25). Moreover, he has been active in organizing conferences in collaboration with the SMS and Strategic Management Review.
Koen earned his PhD at Eindhoven University of Technology. His research focuses on how companies develop corporate transformation (i.e., alliance, acquisition, and divestiture) capabilities to realize corporate and purposeful growth in publicly-listed and private equity firms. His research appeared in top journals such as Strategic Management Journal, Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Annals, Organization Science, and Strategy Science. He has been visiting scholar at Aalto, Carnegie Mellon University, INSEAD, Oxford University, and St. Gallen University. Before joining academia, he worked in strategy consulting.
