Dame Vivian Hunt is Chief Innovation Officer at UnitedHealth Group (UHG), the 5th company on the Fortune 500 list. She helps UHG deliver its mission across two distinct and complementary businesses: Optum – technology and insights to help people, partners and providers improve healthcare; and, Unitedhealthcare – health benefits plans to enable affordable and high quality care. With over 400,000 colleagues and revenues of ~$370b, UHG is committed to improving healthcare for everyone.

She was named ‘The most influential black woman in Britain’ (Powerlist Foundation) and one of the 30 most influential people in the City of London (Financial Times). In 2018, she was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire for services to the economy and women in business. She received the Lifetime Achievement Award – Strategic Management Society (2022) and The Chartered Management Institute’s Gold Medal (2019).

Previously, she was a Senior Partner for McKinsey & Company helping global private and public companies improve their strategy, operations and performance. She was Managing Partner of UK & Ireland, the Firm’s 2d largest office (2013-20) and led the EMEA Life Science practice (2007-13).

She is a recognised thought leader on productivity and skills, performance improvement, ESG and leadership. She is a founding co-author of McKinsey’s four Diversity Matters reports that found diversity and inclusion are correlated with higher financial performance. She co-authored the first Women in the Workplace report: The Power of Parity How Women’s Equality Can Add $12 Trillion to Growth. The insights and methodologies have been applied globally.

Her TEDTalk: How Business Can Serve Everyone, Not Just Shareholders received over 1.5m views. She argues the business case for sustainable growth in global healthcare and many other industries. She features in the WSJ bestseller: To The Top: Women in Corporate Leadership.

Her board experience includes influential business and charitable groups: BritishAmerican Business, The Confederation of Business Industries; BITC and, The Trilateral Commission. She is Chair of Teach First, the UK’s leading education charity and; Founding Chair of the Black Equity Organisation, the UK’s first national Black civil rights organisation. She was elected to the Harvard Board of Overseers, is a Trustee of The British Museum and is on the Southbank Centre Board.

Dame Vivian has an MBA from Harvard Business School and an AB from Harvard College. She received multiple Honorary Doctorates for her contributions to business and society.
