Annemarie Davis is an Associate Professor of Strategic Management at the University of South Africa (Unisa). Her doctoral research, conducted from a strategy-as-practice perspective, focused on the role of middle managers in higher education institutions. Primarily employing qualitative research methods, she has successfully supervised over 30 master’s and 3 doctoral students.
Annemarie’s expertise lies in micro-strategizing practices, especially within the realms of organizational change, middle management, and sensemaking. Her scholarly work offers insights into the nuanced practices that drive strategic initiatives at the middle management level.
Recently, Annemarie completed a six-year term as the Head of Research in the College of Economic and Management Sciences at Unisa, where she oversaw research and postgraduate degree management. She has been a member of the Strategic Management Society since 2009 and is also affiliated with the Africa Academy of Management.
At Unisa, she leads the strategy-as-practice research focus area, which aligns postgraduate research efforts. Since 2012, this focus area has produced 6 PhD theses and 10 master’s dissertations, all utilizing the strategy-as-practice perspective. Alongside co-researcher Dr. Charmaine Williamson, she contributed to the Encyclopedia of Strategy as Practice (with Edward Elgar Publishing) with an entry titled “Strategy-as-Practice in Africa.”
Currently, Annemarie serves in the Department of Business Management and as a project leader for several entrepreneurship development programs within the Inhlanyelo Hub at the University of South Africa.
