Strategic decision-making (SDM) is a complex and uncertain process shaped by bounded rationality, intuition, emotions, and organizational politics. Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming this process, with both beneficial and detrimental consequences. This webinar examines these ambivalent effects in the distinctive context of multinational enterprises (MNEs). Distinguishing among predictive, generative, and agentic AI, the panel will discuss how AI augments or partially substitutes managerial cognition, reshapes organizational learning and capabilities, and transforms the coordination and governance of cross-border activities. We will also examine how national institutions and cultural characteristics influence managers’ reliance on AI, while critically considering how competitive dynamics, market structures, and regulatory regimes shape the development and deployment of generative AI and large language models – which may threaten research integrity. Finally, the panel will explore how AI changes bounded rationality, creates new biases, and challenges established assumptions and boundary conditions in strategy and international business theories, highlighting promising directions for future research.
