As part of the strategic priority aimed at strengthening the governance of the organization, the SMS Executive Committee of the Board formed an Ethics Review Taskforce in 2022 to review the SMS Guidelines of Professional Conduct to ensure that these guidelines reflected current standards. The taskforce was also directed to create a process for investigations should violations be reported so that all matters are handled fairly and equitably and that insight and transparency on the investigation timeline and process is provided to those involved. The new SMS Code of Conduct and SMS Investigation Process & Procedures were the result.
Individuals involved with SMS should review the SMS Code of Conduct and the Ethics Complaint Process. Should an issue arise, the process will be followed by the SMS Ethics Committee based on the submission of the SMS Conduct Complaint form.
