John Van Reenen is a Professor of Economics and the Director of the Centre for Economic Performance at the London School of Economics. His research (much of which has been joint with Nick Bloom, Stanford University) has pioneered innovative ways of measuring management practices and their performance effects. It has been published in top economics journals, such as the Quarterly Journal of Economics and the American Economic Review, and has done much to help economists open up the black box of internal firm organization. John won the 2014 European Investment Bank Prize for Excellence in Economic and Social Research and the 2009 Yrjö Jahnsson Award (European equivalent to the Bates Clark Medal). He is a research fellow of the NBER.
