Catherine Magelssen is an Assistant Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at the London Business School. She received her PhD in Strategy from Rutgers Business School and her BS from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley. Catherine’s research focuses on multinational firm strategy, with particular interests in the allocation of rights to strategic assets to units within the firm and internal versus external contracting relationships. Her research studies the different ways in which multinational firms allocate ownership rights to their strategic assets inside the firm, the mechanisms underlying the rights allocations, and the implications for firm knowledge sharing and innovation. Another stream of research focuses on firm contracting and understanding the differences between internal and external firm contracting. Her research has received scholarly awards, including the IM Best Dissertation Award from the Academy of Management and the Alan M. Rugman Young Scholar Award from the Academy of International Business.
