Richard Whittington is Professor of Strategic Management at the Saïd Business School and Millman Fellow at New College, University of Oxford. He has held visiting positions at Harvard Business School, HEC Paris, the University of Toulouse and the University of Technology Sydney. He has been a member of the Strategic Management Society since 1992, and co-founded the Strategy Practice Interest Group. He has served one term as Director-at-Large for the SMS. He was a co-chair for the 2010 SMS Special Conference in Finland, an event coordinated with the Strategy Process and Strategy Practice Interest Groups. He was co-chair for the first SMS pre-conference doctoral workshop and has co-chaired the Body of Knowledge working group for the Society's professional certification initiative. He was a co-founder of the Academy of Management SAP Interest Group, of which he is a past chair. His main current research area is 'strategy as practice', investigating strategy as a kind of work and profession. He has published singly or jointly nine books, including 'What is Strategy - and Does it Matter?' and 'Exploring Strategy'. He is an Associate Editor of the Strategic Management Journal and is co-editing a special issue on Strategy Process and Strategy Practice for the journal.
